I think we've finally decided on a date for Jesse's birthday party. Yes, his birthday was January 2. No, I am not a terrible mother--just a very busy one at that time of year. I decided last year that we really needed to put some space between his birthday and the holidays or I was going to end up medicated. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But, c'mon, the two weeks before and after the holidays are a terrible time for a birthday party. People are out of town and weary from the forced time spent with family (kidding, family! really!) in addition to being either broke or on the verge of a breakdown at the thought of having to step into a retail establishment of any kind to buy a gift so soon after Christmas. Or maybe I'm projecting. Still, if the kid had just waited until March to be born, like he was supposed to, we wouldn't have any problems. So, yeah, I blame him. And for revenge, I'm making him wait on his birthday party. Proposed date is February 12 at the Laser Quest in Poplar Plaza shopping center. Be there or not.

As a January 3rd birthday, i can vouch that you are not a terrible mother. I mean, it's MY OWN birthday and I myself don't even feel like celebrating it on Jan 3rd. It's a sucky time to have a party, because everyone is still hungover from New Years', they've started their diets, and yes, they are both broke and partied-out. I'm considering moving mine to April 3rd. And I must say, you get bonus points because you not only handle the holidays and your kid's birthday (or the postponing thereof), but you've never forgotten my birthday. So, Mwah.
MWAH! back at ya. I should tell you that this is the third incarnation of his party (it started out as a slumber party, turned in to a lunch-followed-by-putt-putt outing for a few friends and then finally became a party at Laser Quest). I've yanked this poor kid around about his birthday for weeks now. So, I still feel pretty crummy about it.
